About
The Liverpool City Region Combined Authority (LCRCA) brings together the regions six authorities: The City of Liverpool and Metropolitan Boroughs of Knowsley, St Helens, Sefton, Wirral and Halton.
Objective
The LCRCA is looking to take an ambitious approach to tackling race inequality within the Liverpool City Region. They are looking to tackle the discriminatory barriers to recruitment and selection and develop positive action pathways into the workplace to address under-representation.
Solution
EqualiTeach liaised with the authorities to create a bespoke training package that raises awareness of racial inequality, and that enables staff to develop racial literacy and prevent and respond effectively to incidents of discrimination of harassment. Alongside this, EqualiTeach provided guidance to each authority on strengthening their policies and procedures and how they work with equalities monitoring data.
Impact
EqualiTeach has delivered the training since November 2022 to approximately 2,500 members of staff across the LCRCA. As a direct result of the training, participants are equipped to have courageous conversations about race and identity and have an increased understanding of unconscious bias, privilege, prejudice-related incidents and microaggressions. Participants have committed to positive action by presenting the short-term and long-term changes they will make as a direct result of the training, and the authorities themselves have strengthened their policies and procedures to support this.
